There’s nothing better than Christmas TV. No seriously, there really isn’t. Yeah yeah a lot of it is absolute crap but that’s the joy of the festive season. As an avid crap TV watcher myself (when I get the chance) I’ll tell you about the joyful showings on Channel 4 for Christmas Eve and Christmas day (be prepared for the utmost excitement)…
Christmas Eve
If you haven’t watched this film before then shame on you. If you haven’t ever heard of this film before then an even BIGGER shame on you! It’s a Wonderful Life (1.10pm) is an iconic Christmas film from 1946 and is a fantastic watch (if not slightly morbid with the whole suicide thing). It’s that good in fact, that it is the top Christmas film of all time according to a Radio Times survey.
I’m not going to outline the film for you wonderful Lincoln & That readers, you need to watch this for yourselves!
Surely you must have watched The Snowman before? You know, we’re walkingggg in the aiiiiir and all that lot. Well The Snowman and The Snowdog (7.30pm) is pretty much the same as that but this time there’s a dog in it as well as the snowman.
As always the animation is wonderful but the music is fairly crap this time. It’s a shame they thought another version of The Snowman was needed but you still can’t hold back the tears when the snowman and snowdog melt (even my 58 year old tough-nut father shed a silent tear).
Who doesn’t love The IT Crowd (9pm-12am) Everything about it is wonderful (well if you like that type of comedy anyway). Channel 4 is blessing all us lovers of the programme with 4 episodes to bring us into the early hours of Christmas Day. We get to watch the Fans’ favourite episode and also get to see a behind-the-scenes documentary. Ooh are we excited Jen? Jen? Are we excited Jen?
Christmas Day
Christmas Day brings us some wondrous programmes and films. Some are classic, some aren’t. Here are our best picks for the day…
You’ve just finished your Christmas dinner and you’re so stuffed you want to die, so what film is best for when you want a sleepy slump on the sofa? Well it’s The Muppet Christmas Carol of course (4.35pm). Michael Cain is a fantastic Scrooge and all of The Muppet cast will make you belly laugh (beware the dangers of this if you are too full), it’s a fun watch for all the family (as your usual TV guide loves to say).
Bear’s Wild Weekend with Stephen Fry (8.30pm) will grace our screens for a rather interesting watch. The celebrity goes along with Bear Grylls for two days in the Italian Dolomites and we get to see him trying to tackle some of his biggest fears. A must watch (even if it is just for the clip when Stephen falls over).
Once again comedy plays out Christmas Day with “A Christmassy Ted” episode of Father Ted (11.05pm). The episode shows Ted, Dougal and fellow priests as they end up lost in a lingerie department and their battle for escape (absolutely hilarious). It makes you wish that you could witness this in your local Debenhams because of how much it’ll make you laugh. Perfect to end Christmas Day with.
Don’t forget that all the usual Channel 4 offerings are on so you won’t miss The Simpsons or Deal or No Deal. If you need any more information go to the Radio Times website.
