Cronuts Come To Lincoln

You may have heard about the American food craze that is the cronut.

You’ve not heard of a cronut? Well crawl out from under that rock and I’ll tell you.

If you’re a fan of a croissant and a doughnut, chances are you’ll love this combination of the two. The cronut is yet to celebrate its first birthday, but bakers across the world have already created their own versions.

One of those is Debrah Green from Bonbonbouche in Lincoln, who are baking their very own ‘cro-nutz’.

Freshly baked 'cro-nutz' on a tray, topped with butterscotch and maple syrup with pecan.

Now, I’ve tried these ‘cro-nutz’, and I must admit, they were pretty amazing, (I was even kind enough to share one with the other L&T authors, Alice, Gurpreet and Richard. But not Luke, he despises croissants). They have the unusual flaky exterior of a croissant, but the inside is doughy and sweet, like a doughnut (what a coincidence).

So you’ve decided you want to try one of these, difficult part is picking a topping… There are a few flavours, ranging from butterscotch or chocolate through to maple syrup and pecan, if you can’t decide, you might have to get one to take away too.

‘Cro-nutz’ cost £1.75 or £2.00, depending whether you want to eat it in the cafe, or in the comfort of your own home. But the extra 25p gets you a sauce for dipping, which quite frankly, sounds like heaven on a plate.
