What’s On ITV This New Year?

Always much anticipated, new year is the time when everyone tries (and usually fails), at making their new years resolution. But we’re here to make everything that little bit better, with a guide to the best ITV has to offer and the perfect opportunity for you to finish off that tin of Quality Street, if you haven’t already.

New Years Eve looks like a standard Tuesday from a television perspective, but hidden in the usual schedule are a few gems.

The Nation’s Favourite Dance Moment (4:00pm) this show counts down the favourite dance routines. Expect to see some of the best known dances the world has seen, with Michael Jackson’s Thriller, Beyonce’s Single Ladies and dances from films, like Grease and Saturday Night Fever. You’ll definitely be itching to get off your sofa and have a “little boogie,” we’re hoping to see the likes of the Macarena, Cha Cha Slide and The Ketchup Song make it into the top 10. It’s a repeat, so if you’re lucky enough to have seen it before, don’t spoil it for everyone else.

Mamma Mia (8:00pm) If you’ve never seen this musical that features songs by ABBA, or you need to do more dancing following the afternoon offering, then seriously, you need to make sure you watch it tonight. Set on a Greek island, Amanda Seyfried is due to get married and invites 3 men (Pierce Brosnan included) to her wedding in a bid to find her father. If you love an ABBA song, this is a must watch. Dancing round the living room singing into a hairbrush is also a requirement.

2013: A Funny Old Year (10:15pm) Jason Manford (you know, that comedian from Manchester who used to host the One Show?) hosts this repeat, that looks back over the last 12 months, in a funny way, to see what the world got up to. Apparently it covers the horse meat scandal, royal baby and sporting events like Wimbledon. Jason offers his personal opinion on each topic and looks at the unusual trends that had us all gripped this year. If you miss it, don’t worry, it’s repeated again on Wednesday.

Fear not, you can still watch Daybreak, Lorraine, Dickinson’s Real Deal and Emmerdale.

New Years Day is equally as thrilling, with Dickinson’s Real Deal again making an appearance.

Waterworld (12:05am) what better way to welcome 2014 than through a science fiction film from the mid 90’s? It sounds very jolly, as a web-footed mariner, a woman and an orphan go on the hunt for a ‘mythical haven of dry land’. Did we mention the map to find this is tattooed onto the child? I’m sure there’s a legal tattoo age for a reason. On their travels they run into some problems with some pirates. It’s all sounding very exciting, and quite frankly, one to watch.

50 Greatest Harry Potter Moments (3:40pm) because no one has seen enough repeats this festive season, here’s another one. If you’re a Potter fan, ITV is the place to be today, 2 hours of everyone’s favourite moments from this famous film saga. It’s all nicely commented on by the actors and actresses from the films, how wonderful. Not to mention the narrator is Hagrid, aka Robbie Coltrane (maybe that should be the other way round).

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 (8:00pm) this is the final installment of the Harry Potter films, it’s very sad, especially if you’ve been following ITV on their showing of the films (in order) every week. It’ll make a lot more sense if you’ve seen Part 1, and follows the end of Harry’s Hogwarts education. If you’re anything like us, you’ll probably shed a tear. This is also the film where Neville Longbottom became really attractive, like really.

ITV2 have a wonderful and varied selection of films on across the New Year, they can be found on the Radio Times website, along with the rest of the schedule for ITV.

Happy New Year.
