Waterloo Road

In 2006, the country was graced with a wonderful new drama, Waterloo Road. Who’d have thought that 8 years down the line we’d have had 9 series? Definitely not us.

Last week the show returned to our screens on BBC1, after the Christmas break, bringing yet more drama and troublesome teens to the school.

Now set in Scotland, with none of the original cast left, it’s barely even like Waterloo Road at all. Oh and Jane Beale from Eastenders is an ex-alcoholic in the programme. Isn’t she doing well?

But it’s difficult to miss the early days, when all the outrageous storylines were fresh and new, and the girls are wearing denim skirts, vest tops, brightly coloured zip up hoodies and trainers (when they’re not at school of course). If you’re anything like us, it might make you feel 12 years old again.

If you’re lucky enough to have access to the wonderful channel CBS Drama (no, we’d not heard of it either), it’s available on the following channels, Sky – 149, Virgin Media – 147, or Freesat – 134). They’re showing them from the very beginning at 10pm (EVERY SINGLE NIGHT) or if you’re busy watching something more exciting (shame on you), which let’s face it, nothing is more exciting than ancient school yard dramas. Then you can catch it (or record it if it’s beyond your bedtime), at around 1am (EVERY SINGLE MORNING). To find out what other gems are on offer on this delightful channel, here’s a handy link to their website.

If you find overly dramatic storylines and badly behaved children fun, it makes for good viewing, no matter how terrible everything else might be. Waterloo Road is on at 8pm on BBC One, every Wednesday. (Guppy “apparently” watches it…for the new PE teacher).
