Being a fresher… Well, it’s an exciting experience. You usually live in student accommodation with total strangers and get to know them by getting drunk together. You start your course and realise halfway through the last term that first year counts for nothing in your degree. Yeah, freshers year is one which you’ll never forget; unless that is, you spend the entirety of it off your face…
Okay so living with new people is rather daunting, but usually your flat or entire block will spend the first night socialising in a bar or club. The good thing about this is if you’re a socially awkward person, alcohol may help you bond and make new friends. The bad thing is, if you over-estimate how much you drink, you may make yourself look like an absolute idiot (here’s an example). You may think you’re all best friends and sometimes you do end up living together for all 3 years. On the other hand though, towards the end of first year, you may not even speak to your flatmates anymore as you’ve all realised you dislike each other, and by third year you never see them at all.
Education wise… Well… everyone knows first year doesn’t count right? You do learn though, you learn a lot. Basically you actually find out what your course entails and try to get your head around it. You may have a few exams, but hey, you’ll eventually understand your course.
If you haven’t already realised from the first few paragraphs what being a fresher is all about then I’ll put it again one last time. Eat, sleep, rave, repeat, eat, sleep, rave, repeat. That’s pretty much it. Oh, and hey, don’t forget Eat, Sleep, Rave, Repeat is an actual song. How appropriate for this post.
