2014 is set to be a year of comebacks, follow ups and musical wonders we’ve been excited for for quite some time. Here are just a few.
- Lana Del Rey – Ultraviolence
She’s spent the last year hinting at an *extremely* early retirement – but now, Lana Del Rey has suddenly reappeared from the life of knitting and soaps.
During her short film Tropico’s premiere, she shockingly announced that her second album will be called Ultraviolence. Set for release in early 2014, this will come as wonderful news for her fans, but might also leave people wondering ‘is Lana the most indecisive person on the planet, or is her life just one huge publicity stunt?’
Considering Lana Del Rey is at least her third alter ego, indecisive is probably her middle name (well, one of them. Lana Del Indecisive Rey suits her..) She’s a bit of a boomerang, isn’t she?
- Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran‘s second LP is set to be a massive follow up to his music debut back in 2011. We know, so long (a bit like the time it’s taking him to get with Taylor Swift, but that’s a total different love story. Get it?)
Anyway, whilst it is currently untitled, he debuted its first single Tenerife Sea back in October and we can’t wait to hear the studio version. It’s a bit impossible not to love him really.
You can expect this album to hit the shelves on 17th February, if HMV and similar retailers don’t almost close. Again.
- Nina Nesbitt – Peroxide
Speaking of Ed, he was once rumoured to be romantically involved with this blonde beauty, too. Nina supported him on a tour last year. It’s pretty fitting then, that her entrance into music will clash with Ed’s second album.
If you’ve never heard of her, her music is great.
Nina’s vocals are very stripped back and raw, with a gentle touch and superb vocal range that makes complete heaven for your ears. She’s released several EPs building up to Peroxide, and we’re very excited to see what she has in store.
- Lily Allen
Lily‘s currently unnamed new album is set for release in March.
Considering she’s another singer to have recently come out of retirement, this could be very exciting.
Her newest single, Hard Out Here, provoked a very strong reaction and also taught us Lily’s favourite swear word, bitch. Her cover of Somewhere Only We Know also did very well, stealing the top spot earlier in the month.
- Adele
Yes, we’re talking about that Adele. Like Lana and Lily, she too has vanished recently. But unless you’ve been trapped in a cave for the last year, you’ll know this one is ever a hipster. Unlike many other popstresses at the moment, her comeback isn’t from retirement – it’s from a hiatus in which she had a baby.
You might be awwwing now, but think of her albums in the past and then think of this one. If it’s anywhere near as honest, it could be very, very hormonal. Might be a nice change from the usual break up songs though!
We’re super excited for it if it surfaces this year as rumours suggest.
Other albums to look out for include LPs from Cher Lloyd (We’re just gagging for more Swagger Jagger…) a jazz album featuring Lady Gaga and a new album from Sophie Ellis-Bexter (the noughties actually called us about this one and asked for their music back, but we want to hear it first. Hopefully it won’t be a Murder on the Dancefloor.)
