In Chinese terms, 2014 is the year of the horse. And if you’re out seeing in this new year tonight, this is hopefully something that won’t be featuring in your post-night-out kebab (that scandal is so 2013, after all).
But if you can’t actually decide what to do with your life tonight, there are an array of events happening across the city to bring the year in with a bang.
You see all sorts of bizarre, weird and wonderful outfits whilst out in Lincoln, but NYE is the one night where all that changes. The clubs where girls wear dresses shorter than Samantha Brick’s list of fans and boys wear what they’ve had on all day suddenly try and become ‘classy’ (ooh, posh).
This includes Home, which is hosting a masquerade ball (8.00 PM) This will undoubtedly be a night of camp looking fun, with everyone donning their favourite masks and suave outfits. They also promise some ‘special surprises’ during the night. This could be a reference to the special surprise you’ll get when you realise everyone is wearing the same black mask and you have no idea where your friends have gone. Of course, it could also actually be something good. Delightful.
Lola Lo’s are also getting in on the seasonal action with their Black and Gold Masquerade Ball (9.00 PM). This means they have a strict ‘black and gold’ dress code, if the title confused you. Whilst this sounds quite funky (and shiny, ooh shiny), it appears to be the only difference to your average Tuesday at the club. We really hope they play Sam Sparro’s Black & Gold at regular intervals though or they’re seriously missing out. That is such a tune.
Next we come to Quo Vadis, who are hosting a super creatively named ‘Lincoln, it’s New Year’s Eve, let’s party!’ event (10.00 PM). The title is so inventive, we almost shed a tear. The night features a special ‘champagne and spirit booth package’ to add a touch of glamour to the event, if you’re willing to to hand over 35 of your finest English Pounds. There’s not much else to say about this really. It does what it says on the tin, if it was in one.
Of course, there’s one club that just couldn’t be black tie. Ever. And that is Cubes. Cubes is hosting its annual NYE party (10.00 PM) with a ‘rock & roll fancy dress’ theme. It definitely won’t be classy (unless your idea of classy is complete drink spilling carnage), but it will be a night full of chilled out moshing and fun. So if fancy yourself as more of a David Bowie than a David Cameron, it could be perfect for you.
If you’re not into clubbing, you could also join us here at Lincoln & That for a fun filled night in front of the TV. Being the incredible wannabe journalists that we are, we’ve got this covered – visit our homepage for a full guide to NYE TV.
