SU Elections Are Open Now!

It’s that time of year again where we have to vote or just click spoil vote.

So what elections are we talking about?

Considering we’re based in Lincoln, called Lincoln & That and all attend the University of Lincoln, we are talking about none other than the Student Union Elections or SU elections for short.

What do we get, as the people, from this election? Well, home-made cakes (you have to pay for), hugs from  dragons and people bombarding you to vote for their friends. We have a far better strategy.

Winning campaign poster? This would have the votes rolling in…if any of us ever bothered to put ourselves forward.

The other best thing about the SU elections is how creative each candidate can get with their poster. (Sadly, we can’t get our hands on all of them and plus our campaign would be better).

So the big question is how do you vote and why do you vote? You vote because you may know someone running or love voting or you just having nothing else to do. How do you vote? Well, you can either go to the main admin building or go online.

Go and vote or don’t and stick it to the man!

Voting closes on Friday afternoon.

How Do You Make Lectures Better? Answer: Spaceship Chairs

A picture of 12 Steelcase Node chairs in a variety of colours.

Okay, perhaps you read this title and your first thought was “what the hell is she talking about?”

Well… if you have happened to take a look in the main building at university, a few of the rooms on the first floor are filled with the weirdest chairs in existence.

We here at Lincoln & That (well, probably just me) like to call them “spaceship chairs”.

They’re pretty snazzy actually (yeah that’s right, I said the word snazzy). They’re basically a version of the plastic school chair but at least two times more comfortable, with a plastic circle underneath to place your bag, an added cup or water holder (ooooh) and a move-able desk. They’re also on wheels, which cause you to want to spin around constantly like you did in Year 9 ICT.

So they may not sound amazing by description but if you’re left-handed like me, university desks for “lefties” are hard to come by. Also come on, just look at the photo below and tell me they aren’t cool.

The chairs are called Steelcase Node for anyone interested. My fellow writer Emily actually wrote down the brand of them in her notebook because she is incredibly sad.

Anyway, sadly I couldn’t find a picture of them with the cup holder (which is the MUST HAVE). What’s also crap is that our chairs are only in white… look at the colours we could have had. Imagine a rainbow room of them. Oooh pretty.

If you think I’m nuts right now for talking about chairs then take a group of 20 year olds into a room filled with them and you’ll understand what I mean.

What To Expect From The Brand Spanking New Shed.

The Shed. You’ve probably been there and if you’re a Lincolnite, you’re probably a fan.

But at the back end of last year, tragedy hit when they announced they were to close and become an office block… Dun Dun Dun!

The University of Lincoln’s Student Union came to the rescue (such heroic specimens), announcing they’d save The Shed and make it a student bar.

This brand new Shed (a.k.a The Shed Student Bar – what a mouthful) opened today.

They’ve got some shiny new beer pumps (shiny, oooh. They’re like weird round mirrors. Literally, you can check yourself out) along with lots of new beers (yay!) and free wifi that now actually works. This is of course the highlight and means you now have no excuse not to have those group meetings you’ve been putting off for oh so long.

It’s also cheaper. The SU have wangled some much better prices on the drinks. If you like Carlsberg, it’s now £2.

At the moment they’re still using those wonderful old (sometimes a bit sticky) tables that we all know and love. This will be changing soon (yay for a new wood smell)!

The menus and offers will be changed in September, but until then, the ones we know and love will keep going. This means Shed Wednesdays and Half Price Breakfast Thursdays shall live on (wahoo). You may or may not see us writing our posts in there. If you do, approach us with caution.
